Project Management course content

The drive for constant business innovation and the need to adapt quickly to new digital technologies is a major challenge for most organisations. This has led to increasing demand for qualified project managers who can handle complexity and lead strategic change within organisations to add value.

Project managers are responsible for planning and delivering all aspects of a project - ensuring that it's completed on time and on budget.

They work closely with business leaders and other diverse employees, so they need strong communication and relationship management skills to keep projects on track.

These agile professionals have the skills to analyse and solve problems for organisations by implementing new business processes, systems and technologies that will boost overall performance.

By studying Project Management, you will gain an understanding of the latest technologies impacting the business world, such as big data, analytics, and artificial intelligence/machine learning.

All of the papers have been designed in consultation with practising project managers, and students have the option to become a Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM/PMP).

Project Management is offered as a fully online subject through NET papers, giving you the flexibility to study online from anywhere in the world.

You'll study at our internationally recognised Waikato Management School, which has Triple Crown Accreditation from EQUIS, AMBA and AACSB, placing it in the top 1% of business schools globally.

Qualifications offered

Project Management can be taken as a Minor subject (4 papers or 60 points) for any bachelor's degree offered at the University of Waikato. For example, you might want to consider our Bachelor of Business.

Otherwise, you may prefer to take just one or two papers in this subject as electives.

If you already have a degree and would prefer the freedom to study completely online from home, you may be interested in our Graduate Certificate in Project Management (60 points).

Starting from 2025, we also offer New Zealand's first-ever 12-month Master of Management (180 points) specialising in Project Management.

For a quicker option, there is also the choice of a Postgraduate Certificate in Management (60 points) specialising in Project Management, or a Postgraduate Diploma in Management (120 points) specialising in Project Management.
