A career in marketing was always going to be a natural choice for Matt Kenrick, whose parents are both marketers.
A former Auckland Boys Grammar student, his first choice of university for a business degree was Waikato Management School.
“My degree required me to do two industry experience papers in electronic business. This put me one step ahead of the competition, as it enabled me to develop contacts in the industry much earlier than some of my peers," says Matt.
Some papers were particularly useful, because they discussed the very latest trends in marketing and electronic business.
Matt also enjoyed a nine-month marketing internship at Contagion, one of Auckland’s leading digital advertising agencies. There, he began to develop expertise in online platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and blogs to promote a wide range of clients.
"I developed specialist skills in social media engagement and digital analytics. I undertook market research for clients to provide competitive insights, and learnt how to create tailored content for a number of businesses, such as Pita Pit, Monteiths, Lightbox, Peugeot and Destination Rotorua."
After graduating, Matt initially worked as a marketing and communications assistant for Netball New Zealand, before being snapped up as a digital marketing consultant for Good George Brewery.
He then moved up to Auckland to take up an exciting new role as a digital marketing specialist at Air New Zealand, and in 2021 he became digital campaign lead and then product manager at Countdown Supermarkets.
