Beyond the Screen: Design Research Group (DRG)

The Design Research Group (DRG) explores how visual communication and interactivity enhance user experience in design.

Our research in computer graphic design centers on how visuals and interactivity can effectively communicate messages. We prioritise user experiences and explore design for both children and adults across various digital and traditional media. Typography and advanced media experimentation are key areas of our focus.

Members of the Design Research Group of the School of Computing and Mathematical Science work closely with related research groups in the School including the Digital Library GroupHuman-Computer Interaction Group, and the Information Systems and Databases Group.

Research and collaboration opportunities exist for graduate and undergraduate students as well as visiting scholars investigating the following areas:

  • Design thinking
  • Information design and information search
  • Interaction design
  • Interface design
  • Internet design
  • Printed and digital books
  • Typography
  • User experience design.
