Te Piringa Faculty of Law is immensely proud to be celebrating its 30 year anniversary, and 30 years of New Frontiers
2021 marked 30 years since Te Piringa Faculty of Law first opened its doors in 1991. In that time nearly 4000 students graduated, learnt from and collaborated with exceptional staff, undertaken world-leading legal research, and developed rich networks.
Te Piringa translates as the coming together of peoples and cultures.
This name was gifted to us by the late Te Arikinui, Dame Te Atairangikaahu, the Māori Queen. Our anniversary theme, 30 Years of New Frontiers, acknowledges Te Piringa’s commitment to its founding principles of professionalism, biculturalism, and the study
Our Vision
Te Piringa Faculty of Law’s vision is to be a leading law school recognised for our global reach and impact. For the last 30 years, the Faculty – built on a steadfast commitment to extending its founding goals of biculturalism, professionalism, and the study of law in context – has been producing some of the best law graduates in Aotearoa New Zealand and around the world. We are committed to excellence in our research, teaching, and engagement. Our research transcends disciplinary boundaries and offers real-world solutions, and we are committed to setting a new benchmark in Maori and Indigenous research and a bicultural legal education. Our students experience a transformative, contextual and technologically sophisticated legal education, and are equipped with innovative, creative, professional and boundary-crossing skills. Our 30thanniversary is a time to celebrate with Te Piringa’s whanau that has helped our Faculty carve a place in Aotearoa New Zealand’s legal history.
