Te Kura Toi Tangata me te Te Huataki Waiora mentoring units are a roopū tautoko providing academic (eg. workshops), pastoral and procedural support to School of Education and School of Health, Sport and Human Performance Māori students.
Our kaiāwhina have completed the work that you are doing and are familiar with the schools and University. The Takawaenga Māori coordinates this roopū which includes kaiāwhina. We provide academic and course advice, help with degree planning, guidelines for writing in te reo Māori and scholarship application sign offs. We also organise events such as BBQ, Inter-school sports (Hakinakina) and wānanga for Division of Education and Division of Health, Sport and Human Performance students.

Resources
A variety of resources are available for students studying at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
Access to course books & readings – pukapuka parapara
- These books and other resources are available for any tauira of Te Kura Toi Tangata to use under the supervision of the mentor anytime throughout the year. While we want you to feel comfortable and at ease in Te Ruma, there are a couple of ground rules that we must stipulate.
- These books and course readings can be used by any tauira of Te Kura Toi Tangata, but they must not be taken out of TC1.10.
- If an appointment has been made to visit the kaiāwhina, students using the books must leave at least five minutes before the appointment starts.
Postgraduate student support - through our Takawaenga Māori (mentoring coordinator) we can assist postgraduate students by offering support with:
- Academic issues – enrolment procedures and options, courses, suggestions for supervisors, assignments, tests, exams, academic writing methods, study difficulties and any other academic support
- Organisation of extra tutorials, workshops and study wānanga
- Hui whakawhanaungatanga organisation and social sporting occasions
- Academic wānanga – handouts after wānanga and consultation visits with a mentor
- Paper and departmental information
- Study space on campus – computers for Internet access with kaiāwhina
